Chitral: The district government has been asked to adopt measures to keep Mastuj-Shandur Road open to traffic during the winter season, as the road is often blocked near Shahidas village due to frequent rock fall activity – a news source reported. These demands were put forward by nazims of the Raman, Balim and Harchin villages of Laspur valley.
The blockage of Mastuj-Shandur Road has created problems for locals and tourists, as the driveway remains cut off from the rest of the valley and other parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. This area normally witnesses a huge inflow of tourists during the winter season.
The nazims said that a big chunk of funds secured from the three village councils had been spent for removing rocks from the road in the past two months.
They demanded the government to adopt emergency measures to avert any untoward incidents that may befall the 34,000 people resident inside the valley. They also proposed a diversion of traffic to the road passing through Gasht and Raman villages on the other side of the river.
