Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) has granted heavy bikes one-time entry to the Lahore-Islamabad (M-2) Motorway, according to a news source. This permission was given following the issuance of a court order to this effect; though its implementation will be subject to a certain schedule and criteria notified by the NH&MP. The National Highways Authority (NHA) will ensure that the process goes smoothly.

This permission has been granted to the members of a bikers’ club based in Lahore, and is subject to conditions. One of the conditions announced makes it mandatory for these individuals to submit their club membership and relevant documents, along with the shifts in which they plan on riding their bikes. This will help NH&MP officials to inspect the bikes and their riders. Other condition include:
- All bikes should have Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS) and side-view mirrors
- All riders to have valid driving licenses, motorbike registration documents, and valid membership card of the Lahore Bikers Club
- No biker below the age of 35 to be granted permission
- Bikers to stick to maximum speed limit of 120 km/h
- Bikers to install visible reflectors on the tail of their rear mudguard
- No parallel or pillion riding allowed
- Racer and sports bikes cannot be part of convoys, while travel bikes to form convoys of no more than four bikes at a time

Earlier, the court had granted permission to bikes with more than 600cc engine power to use the M-2 Motorway; with the stipulation that they could only enter from the Main Toll Plaza in Islamabad and the Ravi Toll Plaza in Lahore. They cannot enter from any other interchange. Reporting centres will be set up at both interchanges to inspect the bikes, as well as all relevant documents carried by the riders.
