Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly was informed about the issuance of social health cards to 69% of the province’s population, a news report stated. The KP Assembly was further informed that more health insurance cards will be issued to deserving people in the coming five years. These health insurance cards are referred to as Sehat Insaf Cards.

While answering questions related to Universal Health Coverage, KP Minister for Health Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan said that the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had successfully issued 1.5 million Health Insurance Cards to people living below the poverty line. Another 0.8 million cards will be distributed among poor people starting from March 2019. To make Sehat Insaf Cards successful, the previous government in the province had paid over PKR 4.5 billion to insurance companies.

The Minister further told that district and tehsil level hospitals will be improved in order to treat poor patients locally. This will help in reducing the burden on major hospitals. Meanwhile, the construction work will continue at government hospitals, along with the appointment of specialist doctors in all hospitals.
