Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday (January 5) inaugurated the 293-kilometre long Hakla-Dera Ismail (D.I.) Khan Motorway (M-14) and opened it to traffic, news sources reported. The said road project is also termed as the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)’s western route.

The Hakla-DI Khan Motorway will connect less developed areas to developed ones. PM Khan, while speaking at the inauguration, stated that this was an important road as it will raise the living standards for the people in the area. The said project links D.I. Khan to South Punjab and Balochistan and will transform the region into a business hub in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Through this motorway, transporting agricultural products across the country has been made easy.

Reportedly, the Hakla-DI Khan Motorway has 119 underpasses, 36 bridges, 33 flyovers, and 11 interchanges. According to details, the western route motorway was built in five phases. The first phase starts at Yarik near D.I. Khan and ends at Rehmani Khel, the second phase begins at Rehmani Khel and ends at Kot Belian I district Mianwali, phase three starts from Kot Belian and ends at Tarap, and phase four starts at Tarap and ends at Pindi.
