Gujranwala: The Hafizabad Road stretch between Alam Chowk and Lade Wala has been closed for patchwork repairs — with the city traffic police having recommended an alternative route to commuters till the rehabilitation effort is complete, a news source reported on August 13. The Hafizabad Road is a major thoroughfare in Gujranwala and has been in need of repairs for over 7 years.

The details of the alternate route have been displayed at Alam Chowk. The heavy traffic, including trucks, containers and buses, has been diverted towards Alipur Road from where they will go towards Hafizabad, while the light traffic will do the same from Dogran Wala via Hardu Pur to Hafizabad.

According to sources, the patchwork repairs of Hafizabad Road will begin in a few days and the project is expected to cost PKR 190 million. Speaking on the matter, the Chief Traffic Officer announced that 40 policemen have been assigned the task of ensuring the steady flow of traffic from the alternate routes.
