Gujranwala: The Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC) has prepared a plan to completely dispose of 1,000 tonnes of solid waste in the city, a news source reported. To facilitate this measure, the company will initially purchase 30 vehicles at a cost of PKR 430 million.

The decision was taken during a meeting held between GWMC Managing Director (MD) Atiq-ur-Rehman and Gujranwala Commissioner Naila Baqir. According to Rehman, the GWMC will soon initiate the tendering process to purchase 30 vehicles. For this purpose, the company has already invited tenders via a publication. The bids are expected to be opened in the first week of October.

So far, the GWMC has been unable to ensure the disposal of solid waste due to vehicle shortage. As per reports, most of the untreated solid waste remain unattended along the sides of major roads and highways in all 73 union councils of the city.
