Gwadar: Development work on Phase I of the Gwadar Water Supply Line Project has been 55% completed according to a news source. The supply line will channel drinking water to industries, port area, areas included in the city’s master plan, and city dwellings. The water supply will formally begin by June 2018.
The project was approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) in May 2015 with an estimated cost of PKR 11.39 billion. So far, a 37 kilometres long supply line for the project has been laid. In the meantime, a desalination plant is also planned to set up soon. The federal government initiated the project on its own to ensure its timely completion.
For the Phase II of this project, under which a water line from Shadi Kor Dam and a sewerage treatment plant will be set up, the federal government is holding talks with China over project financing. The project’s second phase will be initiated in January 2018 and is expected to be completed by June 2019.
