Gwadar: The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has decided to launch its first Central Business District (GBD) to promote business opportunities in the coastal city, news sources reported on November 1.

The CBD will be spread over 12.3 square kilometres with an estimated cost of over PKR 90 billion. Speaking at a special session on ‘Gwadar and the Road to Sustainable Development’, GDA Director General (DG) Mujeebur Rehman Qambrani said that the project will be completed in the next 10 years with an estimated earning potential of PKR 400 billion. He said the project would contain all the modern and state-of-the-art infrastructure to support the large industrial base and fulfil future demands.

He said the project will be supported by 100 megawatts of solar energy to supply from Iran. He highlighted that the project will complement the other CPEC initiatives such as Asia’s largest airport, which will be functional in 2023; plans for implementing a safe city model; oil and gas infrastructure for smart energy modelling of the city; maritime tourism; and extensive plans for ferry transport and freight, as well as a railway network connecting Gwadar with Karachi and other parts of the country.
