Beijing: Chinese Scholar Professor Cheng Xizhong on Wednesday said that the approval of the ‘Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan’ had set the direction for the authorities concerned to commence with the development work in the port city, a news source reported. As per the publication, Xizhong further suggested that the whole of Gwadar should be developed as a special economic zone (SEZ) to reap the maximum benefits for the local economy.

Xizhong said that the Pakistani government should adopt preferential policies for Gwadar and ensure a secure environment in the region for business to prosper. He emphasised that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative would boost the country’s exports level.

Xizhong said that the construction and development projects in Gwadar would be executed in three stages and they would deliver their results in 2025, 2035, and 2050 consecutively. The first stage will be finished until 2025 and provide the essential infrastructure for the port city, he added.

Similarly, the uplift projects will carry out functional infrastructure, including logistics and advanced storage facilities, SEZ infrastructure, roads infrastructure, and loading and unloading facilities.
