Gwadar: Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General (DG) Shahzeb Khan Kakar, while speaking at a meeting organised by the Association of Builders and Developers, announced that Gwadar would be transformed into a smart city — a news source reported.

He said that Gwadar was going to be the ‘Singapore of the future’, with investors being provided with all requisite facilities. He added that a modern master plan had been prepared for the city as well.

The DG explained that the most major issue for the city had been the provision of clean water but that this problem had now been solved by laying water supply lines to connect Gwadar with dams that have an estimated five years’ worth of water. Desalination plants are also being installed in the city and are expected to become operational within 2 years.

DG Kakar further stated that other major issues in the city’s development were the provision of electricity and security to the residents. However, he added that these problems were being solved through various methods, which included the installation of power stations in the area.
