Gwadar: The Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs delved into the critical aspects of enhancing railway connectivity for Gwadar Port with ML-1 and Quetta, according to news published in the leading newspaper on January 18.

During the meeting, the attendees were informed about the upcoming rail links integral to connecting Gwadar port with ML-1 and Quetta. The committee was briefed that the land acquisition for this strategic project is divided into three phases. As per the details, the first phase has concluded, and the ongoing second phase is slated for completion soon. Recognizing the pivotal role of railway connectivity in the development of the said port and Pakistan Railways, the Committee directed Pakistan Railways to promptly prepare the PC-1 for the project for expeditious approval.

The Committee also received insights into the Gwadar Port Master Plan, detailing the land acquired by the Port Authority thus far. While the Master Plan encompasses a multi-use area and port industrial zone, officials disclosed that 2,350 acres have been acquired, with an additional 19,121 acres yet to be secured. Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized the need for a robust industrial waste plan to safeguard the Gwadar sea from pollutants, deeming it a necessity.
