Karachi: The New Gwadar International Airport is scheduled for inauguration on December 30, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, sources confirm.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate the airport’s first commercial flight, marking a pivotal step toward enhanced regional connectivity. In preparation for the launch, a recent meeting between PIA and the Airports Authority finalized operational details. PIA is set to deploy staff and equipment, including check-in systems, in the coming days to ensure seamless operations.

Constructed with USD 246 million in Chinese investment, the airport features a large runway and modern terminal facilities capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft.
For its first year of operations, PIA will not be charged any fees, an initiative designed to support smooth startup activities. The airport is expected to drive trade and tourism, establishing Gwadar as a critical hub for commerce and connectivity in the region.
