A meeting was held between the Civil Aviation Authority, the Gwadar Development Authority, and the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC), where decision of Gwadar International Airport going green was taken. As per the details, the first phase of the initiative will witness the plantation of trees along the incoming and outgoing roads of the NGIA, covering over 3 kilometres.
In the second phase, designated areas within the airport’s expansive 4,300-acre vicinity will be enriched with a diverse range of tree species to enhance the green ecosystem. To tackle the ecological challenges specific to Gwadar’s hot desert climate and soil salinity issues, tropical economic tree species will be carefully selected. These species are known for their adaptability to high temperatures, saline conditions, winds, sand, and drought.
