Islamabad: Development work on 2,003 acres of the Gwadar Free Zone is expected to reach completion status by the end of this year, a news source reported. This information was revealed on Monday during a meeting of the Senate Subcommittee on Maritime Affairs, which was presided over by Senator Kauda Babar in Gwadar.

As per officials, construction work on offices and storage halls was underway. The committee was also informed that the Gwadar port would be made fully functional to facilitate the Afghan transit trade and trans-shipment process. The senator said that terms of the trade had been finalised by the government following its discussion with the Afghan authorities.
He stated that technical centres for the provision of vocational training programmes to the locals would be set up in coastal cities of the Gwadar district. This PKR 12 billion initiative would be introduced in collaboration with the Chinese government.

He added that the Expressway Road was being constructed to connect Gwadar Port to the Makran Coastal Highway. Moreover, the executive is working to introduce the best facilities to Gwadar in order to provide incentive to both local and foreign investors, he said. Improving security measures in the province is also a top priority of the government, he added.
