Islamabad: The Gwadar Eastbay Expressway, a large road development project in Gwadar, is scheduled to open in October this year, news sources reported.

Currently, 92% of the construction work on the project is complete, with the final phases expected to be completed by the end of this month. The project is part of the USD 1.1 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) development initiatives underway in the coastal city. Furthermore, the Pakistani government approved USD 168 million for the completion of the six-lane Eastbay Expressway, which runs from Gwadar Port to the Gwadar Free Trade Zone and the Makran Coastal Highway. The project was approved by the Economic Coordination Committee in 2015, and formal construction on the project began in 2017.

Once completed, the road project will also connect the Trade Free Zone to the network of National Highways and Motorways. The project is expected to increase connectivity, trade and increase the industrialization and distribution network.
