Gwadar: On January 30th, 2018, Pakistan and China signed five more agreements and a memorandum of understanding for the strengthening of collaboration between Gwadar and Chinese port cities, according to a news source.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, along with representatives of both Pakistan and China. These agreements were signed on the same day as the inauguration of Gwadar Free Zone. Chief Minister Balochistan, Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Maritime Affiars Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Auranzeb, Chairman China Overseas Port Hold Company Zhang Baozhong, and Gwadar Port Authority Dostain Khan Jamaldini were also present at the occasion.
During this event, it was declared that Pakistan’s Gwadar and China’s Tianjin are sister ports; while Gwadar and Piung were declared as sister cities. Various agreements signed were for close cooperation in strengthening economic ties, reducing poverty in Gwadar, and for the mutual benefit of both parties.
