Islamabad: The construction work on Gwadar International Airport will begin in April, a news source reported. The spadework for the said project has been completed. Currently, the Pakistani and Chinese authorities are working to sort out the modalities of the project prior to starting with its construction.

The airport will measure 4,300 acres and cost $246 million; making it the biggest airport development in Pakistan. The authorities concerned have also completed, reviewed, and approved the feasibility study for the project.
The latest official record shows that the design and work plan has also been approved. It also states that construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2019.
The soil testing on the land selected for the development began in January of last year. It now stands completed with 300 boreholes made on different locations.

Sources expect the Pakistani government to announce the initiation of formal work on the project within the next two weeks. They added that Balochistan has already included the airport in Gwadar’s Master Plan. The said plan includes several projects for converting Gwadar into a hub for economic activities.
