Gwadar: The Universal Service Fund (USF) will offer 4G internet service in Gwadar by the middle of 2023 to improve the coastal town’s information technology infrastructure, news sources reported on May 3. The project includes a 400-kilometre-long fibre optic cable network that will also provide 4G services to Loralai.

According to the Ministry of Information and Technology (I&T), the company is also working on several initiatives to increase connectivity along key roads and motorways. In this regard, the documentation is now being reviewed and will be approved soon. As per the ministry, the company is working on the following IT-related projects:
- 4G connectivity services along 309 kilometre-long Faisalabad-Multan Motorway (M-4) will be launched next month (June)
- 4G services along the Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M-3) and 392-km Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) will be completed by the end of this year
- Internet coverage along the Makran coastal highway and NH 50-70 in Balochistan is complete, with the work on some on N-25 (RCD Highway) and N-65 (Quetta-Jacobabad Highway) to start soon after the issuance of the no-objection certificate (NOC).
- Solarisation of telecom infrastructure in remote areas to improve connectivity is also underway

It is worth noting that USF is also undertaking upgraded IT infrastructure projects in Punjab’s central and southern regions, including Vehari, Lodhran, Sialkot, Narowal, Nankan Sahib, and Sheikhpura. It has also completed 56 projects totalling more than PKR 52 billion to provide optic-fibre cable and internet services.
