Karachi: The authorities concerned on Tuesday demolished an under-construction building on a 600-square yard plot situated in the 13-D area of the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal locality – as part of the government’s efforts to remove encroachments from the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) track, a news source reported.

To this effect, Deputy Director Land (Railways) Khaled Jawed voiced the provincial government’s decision to demolish the illegal buildings in the city. For facilitating this measure, the department has contracted the services of the local police department. The elected representatives of the area requested the Sindh government and Supreme Court to arrange alternative spaces for the affectees of the anti-encroachment campaign.

Previously, the Supreme Court had ordered the provincial executive to launch an anti-encroachment drive against structures illegally built on the KCR track and resume the train services. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heading a three-member bench, had heard petitions against illegal structures built on amenity lands and public parks along with illegal multi-storey buildings. The chief justice had also asked the advocate general of Sindh about the progress made in regard to the revival of KCR.
