Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to turn Gulberg into a central business district, reported a news source. For this purpose, the LDA intends to seek assistance from architects and the local business community.

According to sources, the process for ‘urban regeneration’ of the area’s neighbourhoods has already begun. For this end, a team combining experts from the National College of Arts (NCA) and the LDA paid a trip to the Liberty Market, MM Alam Road, Main Market, and Ghalib Market locations yesterday. LDA Director General Amna Imran Khan earlier provided the instructions for the visit. LDA directors Shakeel Anjum Minhas and Moazzam Rasheed joined the team while the proceedings were in effect.

NCA Principal Professor Dr Murtaza Jafferi formed a team comprising senior students of the college on the request of the LDA. The NCA team will share its proposals on beautifying the façades of high-rises in Gulberg, and keeping their vicinities clean. In this regard, the said students’ group held a meeting with the business community, and prominent traders operating in the above-mentioned areas of Gulberg.
