Lahore: The Punjab Government has included the Gulberg Elevated Expressway project in the Lahore Master Plan 2050, news sources reported on January 24.

The 10.5-kilometre-long Gulberg Elevated Expressway track will connect Home Economics College in Gulberg with Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), bypassing Shadman, Samanabad, Ferozepur Road, and Gulshan Ravi. The estimated cost of the project is PKR 85 billion and includes the acquisition of 801 kanals of private land worth PKR 3.5 billion, which will be handed over to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). The final approval of the project is expected to be given by the federal government in the upcoming budget.

It is important to note that the project was approved in 2019 and was pitched as a viable project to reduce pollution in the city by reducing traffic congestion in the main city areas. The Punjab government conducted a feasibility study to evaluate the project and its potential benefits. The study concluded that the project was feasible and have a positive impact on the city’s infrastructure.
