Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday (December 27) inaugurated the newly constructed Gulab Devi Underpass on Ferozpur Road, news sources reported. The underpass has been named ‘Abdul Sattar Edhi Underpass’ in honour of Pakistan’s renowned humanitarian figure.

According to reports, the project was completed at a cost PKR 659.2 million two months ahead of its scheduled deadline. It was also revealed that project will help save PKR 60 million annually in terms of fuel expense. As per the estimates, approximately 132,000 vehicles will travel through the three-lane underpass every day. The underpass will especially prove important in alleviating traffic congestion on the route leading to important hospitals.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Buzdar said that the government is spending PKR 50 billion on the elevated expressway project, which will stretch from Gulberg to the Babu Sabu Interchange at M-2. The government is spending billions of rupees to uplift the city’s road infrastructure via vital projects like Shahkam flyover, Sheranwala Gate flyover and other signal-free corridors.
