Last week, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan laid the foundation stone of Sambrial-Kharian Motorway, an extension of Sialkot-Lahore Motorway (M-11). As per the details shared, it was decided to construct the Gujrat link road as per the model of the Faisalabad Motorway – a fenced dual carriageway. It was disclosed that the Gujrat link to the motorway is expected to be developed from Kathala Chenab point on GT Road.
It is pertinent to mention that initially, there was no direct link to Gujrat. In a meeting with PM Imran Khan, Federal Minister for Water Resources Chaudhry Moonis Elahi raised this matter. According to the sources, PM approved the link road and ordered Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed to carry out the necessary steps. According to the original plan, five interchanges were to be established in the Gujrat district for Sambrial-Kharian Motorway, but all the areas are from rural Gujrat; Guliana, Daulat Nagar, Jalapur Jattan, Kharian, and Pero Shah. With the establishment of this link road, travelling to Sialkot airport will become a lot easy for those who will be travelling along the Lahore-Sialkot-Kharian Motorway.
