Lahore: The Punjab government on Wednesday (August 17) notified the separation of Gujrat district from Gujranwala, elevating it to division level, news sources reported. Gujrat will be the 10th division, with Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafiz Abad as its districts.

Reportedly, the approval of the summary was signed by Punjab Governor Baleegh-ur-Rehman and was issued by the senior member Board of Revenue (BoR) following its approval from the provincial assembly.
As per the notification, Gujrat will be the new seat of the division, with Jalalpur Jattan and Kanjah as new Tehsils. Related to the development, Gujrat Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amer Shahzad Kang stated that the government has already selected a 73-acre plot of land in Machiana village to house the divisional headquarters offices, government employees, and officers. In this regard, the road infrastructure development project will be started soon.

It is worth noting that Gujranwala is one of the largest districts in Punjab, with a population of 16 million people and six districts. However, the bifurcation is expected to ease the administration-related matters in the industrial city of Gujranwala.
