Gujranwala: The Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA) has identified two sites to set-up the GDA City, in which the authority will reserve 100 acres of land to develop an exclusive block featuring low cost houses for the prime minister’s Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), a news source quoted GDA Chairman Sheikh Amir Rehman.

The GDA chairman shared this information while addressing a forum organised by a local, daily newspaper. He added that the GDA has prepared drafts for new construction bylaws for kachi abadis and land subdivisions. This will help address the basic issues faced by the residents of these communities and housing schemes established decades ago.

As per the information shared by the GDA chairman, the PC-1 prepared for the GDA City during the last government’s tenure was neglected. Additionally, the plan to develop the project on the previously identified 900 acres of land on Sialkot Road had to be dropped due to a lack of interest in the past.

The GDA has now identified new sites spanning 500 acres in Gujranwala’s adjoining villages, Gondlanwala and Rata Jhal. A preliminary report on the project has been sent to the government of Punjab for approval, he added.
