Gujranwala: GDA City, the Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA)’s flagship project, has been put on hold due to a lack of funds, a news source reported. As per the publication, the project was conceived over three years ago; with the authority having approved its development back in January 2017.

According to the information available, GDA City’s location is set to be somewhere on Sialkot Road, with the entire project expected to span over 941 acres of land. The GDA management also revealed that a consultant has been hired to oversee the completion of the project, with the authority planning on initiating a marketing campaign once the details have been finalised.

The project has not seen any progress ever since it was approved almost three years ago, even though it was designed to cater to the housing needs of the people from the lower-middle class. Earlier in January this year, a news source reported that the Lahore Development Authority would be providing assistance to the GDA for the development of GDA City, and that this venture would be launched ‘soon’.

In October earlier this year, it was revealed that the GDA City would feature an exclusive block for the development of low cost houses, under the auspices of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP). The latest news reports however claim that no funds have been released for to initiate any type of development work in this regard. According to sources within GDA, related developments in GDA City have been put on hold since work is already underway on other NPHP projects in the city.
