Gujranwala: The Government of Punjab has announced its decision to complete the Gujranwala Safe City project, by utilizing the private-public partnership (PPP) mode— a news source reported. As per the publication, this decision has been made due to a lack of ample funds; making it difficult for the government to complete the project on its own.

The Gujranwala Safe City Project was first announced back in 2016. The project was to be completed at a cost of PKR 3.5 billion, according to the calculations made back then, and included the installation of over 3000 CCTV cameras across the city. In this regard, the government had already formed Dolphin Force and spent over PKR 2 billion on project building, including a headquarters for the Dolphin police division.

The project is currently facing delays in completion because the provincial government lacks the requisite funds. The government is now seeking a sum of around PKR 1.5 billion to finish the project and will achieve this target by reaching out to private partners for financial assistance.
