Gujranwala: The district administration has announced its decision to impose a complete ban on the use of polythene bags in Gujranwala from September 15 onwards, a news source reported. As per officials, the shopkeepers and traders found violating the bag will face legal charges.

As per reports, the continual use of plastic bags in all shops and markets of Gujranwala has choked the city’s sewerage system. To prevent similar instances in the future, the district administration has also launched a public awareness campaign about the negative impact of plastic on the environment.

As part of the initiative, the local leadership of the incumbent government visited the markets and advocated the usage of cloth bag instead of polythene bag. According to reports, so far, the campaign has failed to achieve the desired results as people continue to use the shopping bags.
