Gujranwala: The Metropolitan Corporation Gujranwala, during a recent meeting with the trade union presidents of over 25 markets, announced to remove all encroachments on the city’s main roads and markets, a news source reported.

Reportedly, the order to launch the crackdown came directly from the MCG administrator. Under the first phase of this drive, the MCG regulation officer will visit all these bazars and inform traders of the two-day deadline to voluntarily remove encroachments around their properties.

The measure is being taken to facilitate shoppers in these areas. The representatives of these trade unions were informed that disciplinary action would be taken against those involved in taking bribes from the encroachers.

Additionally, the officer representing MCG was directed to install street lights in these markets and also ensure cleanliness — with the officials concerned asked to perform their duties in shifts in order to attend to these concerns in a timely manner.
