Gujranwala: After completing survey of vacant plots in the city, the Excise and Taxation Department has dispatched tax notices to the owners of these properties, a news source reported. As per officials, the city currently hosts 22,000 vacant plots.

The Excise Department previously placed a ban on the transfer and registration of vacant plots on non-payment of property taxes. Between 2017 and 2018, the Punjab government had imposed property tax on vacant plots in order to increase its revenue. The survey conducted back then had revealed that Gujranwala alone hosted 51,000 vacant plots.

As per the details shared by the Excise Dept. owners of 22,226 vacant plots in the city were found to be tax defaulters; owing a collective amount of approximately PKR 9.5 million. Reportedly, the department has served them various notices to pay the due taxes but the owners didn’t comply with the instructions.

Further, the department has dispatched commercial tax notices to the owners of plots where commercial activity is being carried out.
