Karachi: An 18-member Guardian board is making extensive efforts to uplift the historic Frere Hall and restore it to its former glory, according to a news source.
Last year, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) handed over the management and maintenance of Frere Hall and its gardens to this board. The reins were officially handed to the board in November, 2018, and work has started.
The board comprises prominent citizens such as Amin Hashwani, Ghazi Salahuddin, Durriya Kazi, and Shahid Abdulla. These people have been working hard on the project and are striving to complete an ambitious plan to revive some of the iconic features of the building. It also plans to add some new features to increase the building’s cultural value.
Members of the board emphasised the need to protect the heritage of this building. The plans in this regard include the restoration, revival, and the addition of a library. The board is focusing on both the architectural and vegetative aspects of Frere Hall to restore Karachi to its former glory.
