Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday approved seven development projects worth a total of PKR 36 billion, a news source reported. Two of these schemes, with a collective cost of PKR 25 billion, were forwarded to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for its approval.

The two projects forwarded to the ECNEC are the operationalisation of Green Line Bus Rapid Transport System in Karachi at a cost of PKR 10.956 billion and a modern tunnel-boring sewerage system for Lahore worth PKR 14.146 billion. The CDWP is authorised to approve projects costing up to PKR 10 billion on its own under the new financial rules. More costlier schemes are sent to the ECNEC for final approval after CDWP approves them on technical grounds.
The remaining projects consisted of two schemes for the energy sector’s development; including an ADB-funded 500kV Moro Substation scheme worth PKR 7.124 billion and a study worth PKR 1.042 billion to establish a few nuclear power plants. The Moro project is being established to meet the increasing power needs of the Sukkar Electric Power Company.

Moreover, the CDWP approved the construction of the Quetta Expo Centre at a cost of PKR 2.5 billion. Similarly, projects to set up a National Curriculum Council and renovate offices of the Railway Police’s Rawalpindi Division were approved. These schemes are worth PKR 239.01 million and PKR 129.309 million, respectively.
