Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday (December 15) stated that green urbanisation and smart cities are critical to mitigate the effects of climate change and pollution, news sources reported.

Reportedly, the premier emphasized the use of environment-friendly materials, smart trees, blue highways, and energy-efficient building materials in the development of the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) and the Central Business District (CBD).
As per the reports, the meeting was informed that the government is taking all steps necessary to mitigate the impacts of smog and pollution by developing strategies and mitigation plans. These plans include the preservation of existing green urban culture. The premier also directed authorities to replicate these green development models in other cities as well.

Moreover, the meeting was informed that the private sector will invest PKR 100 billion in the flagship CBD project in the first year. Similarly, the construction of 1,900 low-cost housing units is also included in the master plan of the Ravi riverfront scheme. The premier said that the development of these smart projects will create job opportunities and will enhance the socioeconomic status of the people.
