The preliminary work on the project had been started back in 2018, but its development had to be delayed due to the paucity of funds. Now, the World Bank will be collaborating with the Punjab government to complete the venture within an estimated 5 years.
According to the details available, under the project, the government will work on increasing the number of air quality monitoring centres around various cities across the province — with the number of centres set to increase from 9 to 39 during this time. According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director Muhammad Tahir, the newly installed stations will be more efficient and accurate in comparison to the old monitoring stations, and they will also help control population.
