Recently, the government allocated a sum of PKR 32.4 billion for the Punjab Forest Department. Over five million trees will be planted across the province.
The department had last year set up a geographical laboratory. The government said it intended to map the country’s forest cover. Later on, the use of advanced technology facilitated mapping of over 750,000 acres.
Officials said they were developing a web portal and mobile application for the purpose. The Information Technology Board (PITB) had been assisting the forest department in this regard.
