Lahore: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday stated that government considered wildlife preservation and the development of the country’s green areas to be the main goals of its ‘Green Pakistan Programme’, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter at the inaugural session of the three-day ‘Asia Regional Conservation Forum – Greening Asia for Nature & People’. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) organised the event.
The PM revealed that his government was carrying out a massive drive to protect Pakistan’s topography; which possessed the diversity of 12 natural ecological zones. He added that protecting the environment was the biggest service to humanity – making the planet liveable for the future generations.
The PM discussed the following features of his government’s environmental protection programme:
- 10 billion Tree Tsunami
- Steps for cleaning rivers and air
- Waste disposal system
- Action against mafia involved in cutting of forests
PM Khan also discussed the smog situation in Lahore; stating it to be a matter of concern. He added that educational curriculum would be updated to spread environmental protection awareness at grassroots level, he said.

Meanwhile, Advisor to the PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam highlighted his ministry’s five-point agenda for environmental protection. He added that this agenda included 10 billion tree initiative, Clean Green Index, Electric Vehicle Policy, ban on single-use plastic bags, and the ‘Recharge Pakistan Project’.
The adviser said he was confident that this conference, which had gathered experts from 35 countries, would come up with proposals for effective policy on environment conservation.
