Karachi: The Bus Rapid Transit’s (BRT) Green Line project’s first phase is in its final stages and will be completed by May 15, according to a news report. Phase 1-A of the project, which extends from Sarjani to Gurumandir is in its final stages and work on Phase 1-B, from Numaish to Bundu Khan Hotel Underpass, is also being done. Work on Phase 2 of the project, from Taj Medical Complex to Municipal Park, MA Jinnah Road, is yet to begin.
The new deadline set by the federal government is May 15. The Sindh government has yet to procure business, but the Provincial Minister for Transport has been quoted that 30 to 40 businesses will be imported by May 15 and an agreement with a private company has already been signed.
According to Karachi Infrastructure Development Company General Manager Zubair Channa, Phase 1’s civil works is 95% complete, while the construction of stations is 50% complete. By May 15, civil works and the construction of 14 stations will be completed and handed over to the Sindh government, while work on the remaining 6 stations will continue.
The bus depot is set to be completed by June, but it will be completed ahead of schedule by the May 15 to the extent that buses could be parked there.
