Islamabad: Planning Minister Asad Umar on Monday directed the concerned authorities to finalize and get the much-awaited Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) up and running by August of this year, according to a news source.

During a recent meeting which was held in order to discuss the ongoing projects in Karachi, Mr Umar asked the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL) to assess all the relevant activities in order to achieve the set timelines on the projects, especially with regards to the implementation of the Integrated Intelligent Transport System (IITS).
Furthermore, the minister assured that the federal government was taking every step to accelerate the BRT project in order to aid the people in terms of public transport. He also expressed that the executive was working beyond its responsibility to aid them in the transportation woes.

As per the news source, prototype buses would be ready for trial runs and commissioning by April 25. The IITS contract Package-A would be signed on March 26, Package-B on April 2 and the award of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) would be announced by May of this year.
