Islamabad: Pakistan and Denmark have reached an agreement to collaborate on building climate-resilient green energy infrastructure, including wind energy, in order to address the challenges of climate change and resolve Pakistan’s energy issues, according to news published on June 16.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy Dan Jorgensen held a meeting in Islamabad to discuss matters of mutual interest. After exchanging a Joint Action Plan under the Green Framework Engagement Agreement, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed that the agreement would pave the way for joint initiatives and projects in renewable energy and green transition.
Bilawal highlighted that green energy infrastructure by Denmark and Pakistan showcases how the developed and developing worlds can partner to find solutions and collectively face the challenges of climate change. Bilawal expressed hope that the federal government would formulate policies to encourage international companies to invest in Pakistan’s wind and other green energy sectors.
He further stated that there are numerous areas in which the cooperation between Pakistan and Denmark can yield benefits. Under the green framework agreement, the two countries will collaborate to overcome the challenges of climate change, while also fostering a strong partnership in the green framework that can generate increased economic opportunities between them.

Bilawal acknowledged the Danish government’s leading role and advocacy for green energy transition and climate change within Europe and Pakistan. Partnering with European countries on this ambitious green energy transition agenda, he emphasized, would have positive implications not only for Pakistan in the climate context but also for its economy.
