Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a grant of PKR 900 million for setting up a rural ambulance service in the province, a news source reported. Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar recently issued directives to this effect.

In a statement issued by the CM Secretariat, it was revealed that the provincial government was providing 450 ambulances in its efforts to transport pregnant women to the closest hospitals in the rural areas. These ambulances help move over 50,000 expecting mothers to the hospitals every month.

Those in need of an ambulance can call on helpline 1034 to get the vehicle at their doorstep. The approved grant will help the authorities concerned extend the services to remote parts of Punjab. The call agents use google maps and track the location of people seeking help.

In another development, the CM presided over a high-level meeting to discuss cleanliness situation in Lahore. He directed the staff concerned to remove waste dumped on streets and keep the city clean. He also directed the concerned officials to identify a new landfill site to dump solid waste and hire a consultant on a priority basis to complete the process of setting up the site.
