Islamabad: The sub-committee of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs ordered the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) to expedite all the necessary arrangements, and ensure that the Gwadar Port becomes completely operational by October 15, according to the news sources.
Chairman China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) Zang Baozhong briefed the committee meeting that the company has released a grant of USD 1.2 billion for uplifting various sections of the port.
The representatives of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) informed the meeting that the department was in talks with the Ministry of Commerce regarding the establishment of Transit Trade Directorate at the Gwadar Port.

The meeting also learned that the Gwadar Port was equipped with all the facilities required to receive a vast variety of shipments. The transit module titled Web Based One Customs (WeBOC) is being utilised in the Port by the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL), and a User Acceptance Test (UAT) will also be conducted.
The officials told the meeting that the matter regarding tax exemptions for Gwadar Port and Gwadar Free Zone is being presently mulled over by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
