Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs on Thursday asked the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) to expediate the land acquisition process for the Gwadar Port, news sources reported. The authority has sent PKR 48 billion land acquisition Project Concept-1 (PC-1) to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) for approval.

According to reports, the GPA briefed the attendees during the hearing on the ongoing development initiatives in the industrial zone and the nearby port region. The meeting was told that the authority is focused on the extension and building of the storage yard, the construction of a multi-purpose terminal, and the oil and gas terminals – which also include a storage area.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the project’s security, infrastructure development, slow pace of construction, land acquisition, and Gwadar Master Plan issues.

The committee directed GPA officials to expedite construction on the project since the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is nearing completion, and would require additional space and infrastructure for operations.
