Islamabad: Capital Development Authority (CDA) does not have the mandate to run the metro bus service between Peshawar Mor and New Islamabad International Airport, a news source quoted CDA Chairman Afzal Latif. A letter in this regard has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Latif said CDA was a development agency and its scope was limited to area development and schemes under CDA Ordinance 1960 and that the civic body did not run bus operations.
The government is yet to decide on a service operator after the Punjab Metro Bus Authority, which runs the Islamabad-Rawalpindi, and National Highways Authority (NHA), the executing agency, refused to operate the new service, the track of which will likely be completed in December.
CDA assisted NHA only in coordination and the removal of bottlenecks related to CDA assets such as roads, water supply network and sewerage lines. It also asked the authorities concerned to seek relevant service operations by consulting Islamabad Transport Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad.
