Islamabad: The government has yet to make amendments to the Rules of Business 1973 to limit the powers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) regarding tax policy, a news source reported. Rule 35 of the Rules of Business issued by the Cabinet Division cites tax policy and tax administration as the primary functions of the Revenue Division.
The government will notify the six nominated members of the Tax Policy Board (TPB) after getting approval from the National Assembly and Senate. The members are Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, IT professional Syed Javed, NADRA Chairman Usman Yousaf Mobin, former FBR chairmen Abdullah Yousaf and Salman Siddique, and economist Dr Ijaz Nabi.
The federal cabinet had earlier accorded approval to separate tax policy from revenue administration. The separation of tax policy from revenue administration is part of several major tax reforms the government has undertaken in its bid to streamline tax administration.
