Islamabad: Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Director IT Bilal Abbasi on Wednesday stated that the government was working to establish special technology zones in order to facilitate foreign investors, a news source reported.

The ministry official was attending a webinar organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). He also stressed the need for binding online companies to repatriate their funds to Pakistan to raise the amount of remittances. Experts have stressed the need for data security and stringent cyber laws for greater facilitation in the field of e-commerce in Pakistan.

The webinar was also addressed by SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri who called for security of country’s financial data which will also help Pakistan meet Financial Action Task Force (FATF) demands.
He added that while Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is working on data security, there is still a need for greater effort.
