Taxila: The government has launched a multi-million Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth project in collaboration with the World Bank (WB) to turn the Mughal-era Attock Fort into a tourist destination, according to a news report published on February 2.

The Attock Fort was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar and will be opened to the public for the first time. Previously, the site was used for strategic purposes. The Mughal era remnant will be improved to provide facilities of boarding and lodging.

The plan to develop the tourist destination was finalised by Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Tourism and Overseas Pakistanis Syed Zulfikar Bukhari, representatives of local administration, tourism and archaeological departments, and WB officials during the site visit.
Under the Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth project, the infrastructure of six different tourist spots will be improved.
