Lahore: The Government of Punjab has decided to update the Lahore Master Plan 2040 and seal the city’s boundaries to check its further expansion, a news source reported. This decision has been taken to control the rising level of environmental pollution in the city.

The directives, to this end, came directly from Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
In a notice issued to the Government of Punjab and the provincial Urban Unit, the PM directed the provincial executive to take immediate measures to check the city’s environmental pollution and irregular usage of land concerns, along with revising the city’s master plan.

The instructions issued by the PM stressed on the provincial government to take immediate measures against further expansions beyond the set boundary of Lahore city. Following up on this order, the provincial government has decided to mark and seal Lahore’s boundaries.
The news source also revealed that the Punjab Urban Unit has also been asked to update the master plans of the other cities in the province – and formulate new ones for the urban centers which currently lack them.
