Islamabad: The federal government announced its decision to transfer the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project to the private sector on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, according to a news source.
This project is estimated to be worth PKR 204 billion and would be transferred back to the government after being operated for 25 years under the private sector. The government is also on the lookout for expedited mineral development to the provinces via coordinated guidance.

This decision was made at a meeting chaired by Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar. A senior government official revealed that the selected private party would fund the construction of the project, operate it for a defined time period of 25 years, and then hand it back to the National Highways Authority (NHA) at no cost. During the meeting, Secretary Communications Jawad Rafique Malik and NHA Chairman Sikanadar Qayyum briefed the attendees about the plans to fulfil this project on a BOT basis.

The 300 km-long Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) is expected to cost around PKR 204.82 billion to construct, and is expected to tale 33 months to be completed. This motorway is set to pass through Khairpur, Hala, Matiari, Nawab Shah, Jamshoro, and Naushehro Feroze regions.
