Islamabad: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has assured the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) of the government’s complete support to establish a new industrial estate near the capital city, according to news sources.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with an ICCI delegation, led its President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan. He said he would move a summary of the proposed industrial zone to the executive for approval. He further stated the government would invoke Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, in order to acquire land for the project.

In response, ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan emphasised the need for a new industrial estate in the capital city. He said that the current industrial zones in the city were working on full capacities. Moreover, he suggested utilising a chunk of land situated near Islamabad for the project; adding that the proposed location would provide convenient access to both motorway and airport.
