Islamabad: The federal government has decided to start constructing the Islamabad Information Technology (IIT) Park from March, news sources reported on February 18. The PKR 1.37 billion project is a joint venture of Pakistan and South Korea.

As per the reports, the project’s groundbreaking was performed in May last year, which kickstarted after the project received No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various departments. It was informed that the tendering process of the project is in the final stage and that it has received NOC from Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and building plan approval from the Capital Development Authority (CDA). As per the building plan, the IIT park will be a self-contained twelve-story facility with a 10-story elevation above ground and a 2-story subterranean. The building will cover a total area of 66,893 square meters. The IT Park would be built with cutting-edge infrastructure and ancillary amenities for ICT enterprises, with financial help from Exim Bank of South Korea. The bank will provide a loan of USD 76.3 million, while Pakistan will arrange USD 12.5 million.

Moreover, as per the ministry of IT, the project will help bridge the talent gap in the IT industry of Pakistan. Similarly, the project is expected to generate 5,000 jobs during its construction.
